Sugar may not be good for you, but when it comes to summertime exfoliating it’s a must—especially for your lips. Starting a lip care regime will keep your pout fresh and kissable as you enter the cooler months, and the good news is that it’s as easy (and sweet) as pie to do.
By exfoliating with a natural scrub, you’ll slough off that top layer of skin often left dry from the sun, exposing a new soft lip that allows for better penetration of hydrating products (like lip balm) and makes your favourite lipsticks go on smoother and last longer.
Small glass container with lid (to store your lip scrub)
Bowl & spoon to mix the ingredients
Step 1: Making The Base
In your bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of coconut oil with 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix until you are left with a rich, thick, and SMOOTH consistency.
Step 2: Creating The Sugar Base
Add two firmly packed tablespoons of brown sugar to your base and mix until it is completely integrated and coated, forming a paste. Adjust the sugar-to-base ratio to achieve your desired scrub consistency.
Step 3: Storing Your Natural Lip Scrub
Transfer your delicious lip scrub into your glass container with lid. Make sure to label the jar and add the date so you can keep track of how long you’ve had it. And consider making it in small batches because homemade cosmetics lack the preservatives and don’t last as long. This lip scrub should last for approximately two weeks if you keep it refrigerated.
Step 4: Using The Lip Scrub
Before each use, let the scrub sit out and adjust to room temperature to soften up before applying to your pout. Using a generous amount, apply the scrub to your lips in a circular motion. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes and then remove with a warm washcloth. Apply Honest Organic Lip Balm or your favourite moisturising lip treatment after each use to maximise the results of your freshly scrubbed lips.
The Importance Of Massaging Your Face!
The face is full of nerves and pleasure points, so it makes sense that a facial massage is a desirable form of pampering. Give yourself a facial massage or visit a professional. Whether you are looking for a quick midday pick-me-up or a soothing escape, the luxury of massage is easily justified by some of its more practical benefits.
Get in a Better Mood
Facial massage decreases anxiety and can improve a negative mood, according to a study conducted by the User Science Institute. Psychological tests administered after 45 minutes of facial massaging showed significant improvements in both mood and anxiety levels, according to the 2008 study. A relaxing facial massage may be just what you need to reduce stress.
Massaging prevent Wrinkles
Daily stress often results in tension buildup in the muscles. Foreheads furrow and lines form between the brows and along the lip line. Gentle, routine facial massage can help relax these tight and drawn muscles, decreasing the lines that they form. Massage combined with a hydrating moisturiser can also help minimize lines and dryness.
See some examples down below that you can do on a daily basis!
The Deep-Cleansing Massage Massaging an oil cleanser into your skin — instead of just rubbing it on and immediately rinsing it off — can increase its efficacy by as much as 30%. This technique also offers the same results as using an electronic facial brush by helping dissolve oil on the skin — without the risk of breaking capillaries or exacerbating rosacea.
The Plumping/Contouring/Lifting Massage Backstage at fashion shows, you’ll often see models getting facial massages before their makeup is applied so their skin will look extra glowy under the lights. This technique can work just as well for you when you’re getting ready for a night out. It makes the skin look more plump and even-toned, and it temporarily reduces the appearance of fine lines.
A Delicious Warm Porridge With Coconut Milk!
Brr, brr, BRRRR! Has winter finally arrived? The mornings are getting darker and colder as the autumnal weather approaches, and let’s face it. Porridge is a great winter warmer and what better way to start a cold, frosty morning than with a warming bowl of porridge? Breakfast is important to fuel your body for the day, particularly if you’re going for a morning run or a gym session before work. We’re huge fans of icy cold smoothies or granola and fruit in the summer months, but now the weather has turned colder, we’re looking for a toasty alternative.
But there are more reasons to enjoy porridge than just a delicious start to the day; oats could provide protection against heart disease and cancer, scientists say, and porridge is packed with fibre, which provides your body with sustainable energy.
If you are feeling the cold here is a recipe to heat up your mornings with…
A warming oat-free porridge topped with crunchy Giving Tree Snack Pumpkin Crisps and nutritious goji berries and a drizzle of Yacon Syrup!
Place the oats and the coconut milk or water in a large pan over a medium heat
Add a tiny pinch of salt, coconut butter and stir with a wooden spoon.
Bring to a steady simmer for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring as often as you can to give you a smooth creamy porridge – if you like your porridge runnier, simply add a splash more coconut milk or water until you’ve got the consistency you like.
Stir the Yacon Syrup through the porridge.
After you’re satisfied with the consistency, put your oats porridge in a bowl an add your Giving Tree Pumpkin Crisps topping alongside with the Goji Berries, Brazilian Nuts, Pumpkin, chia seeds and a little bit of cinnamon!
What is oil pulling and why you should do it
Have you ever heard of oil pulling? Did you ask yourself what it is and why people are doing it? No? Well, then this post will bring some clarity.
Oil pulling is a method to do mouth cleansing in a natural way. It is an ancient Ayurvedic healing practice and has been used in coconut producing countries for hundreds of years.
You can do oil pulling with different kinds of oil but it is mostly done with coconut oil. We at Chi also use coconut oil for our oil pulling, which is organic, raw, virgin and cold-pressed. It has a lot of benefits and is pleasant to the taste. Moreover, coconut oil has strong antibacterial properties, which is very advantageous when doing oil pulling.
You mainly do oil puling to receive a better oral hygiene and get rid of bacteria in your mouth. The method to do it is very simple and easy. You just have to swish the coconut oil in your mouth for around 20 minutes. Do this preferably in the morning before you eat or drink anything. After that, you spit it out into the trash or toilet. Don’t swallow it! The oil should look milky and be watery now. If it isn’t, you didn’t swish it long enough. You shouldn’t spit it into the sink as it contains all the toxins from your mouth. Furthermore, you don’t want to clog your sink drain. Afterwards, rinse your mouth with warm sea salt water, as it will kill any lingering bacteria. But that is optional. What you definitely have to do is to brush your teeth afterwards!
You not only receive a better oral hygiene by doing oil pulling. There are more benefits coming with it. Some examples are a better breath and better overall hygiene in the mouth, whiter teeth, the healing of bleeding gums, better skin or the detoxification of your body. But as already said, these are just some examples out of a lot. Furthermore, coconut oil also contains a lot of vitamins that are easily digestible. It provides you with vitamin A, D, E and K.
If you want to have visible results, you should do oil pulling for at least two weeks. The Chi Oil Pulling kit is available in a two-week course, a four-week course or a six-week course. As you should do the oil pulling every day, the courses contain one sachet for every day. After a few days you will see the first results and you will notice the benefits.
If you have never tried oil pulling before, you should now! We have listed the benefits and it is so easy to integrate it into your daily routine. Oil pulling is the natural and healthy way compared to all the other chemical methods, which are more harmful than helping. So if you want to give your body a treat, try oil pulling.
What is organic extra virgin coconut oil?
We all hear about coconut oil and its benefits. But there are also a lot of different types on the market, which can sometimes be really confusing. There is regular coconut oil, extra virgin coconut oil, refined coconut oil, organic coconut oil… What is the difference and which product is the best?
Today we want to tinker with organic and raw extra virgin coconut oil as this is also the type of our Chi Coconut Oil. You will get a brief overview what virgin coconut oil means and you can read about some differences between this and ordinary coconut oil.
At first, we will look at how the coconut oil is made or rather, extracted. This is also one of the crucial differences between regular coconut oil and extra virgin coconut oil. The latter is extracted from the coconut milk, which the coconut contains. In the process after, the coconut oil is separated from the coconut milk. Chi Coconut Oil is never heated at that point. This means, that neither any artificial filtering nor any chemicals or bleachers are used in the process of extracting.
How to distinguish?
Regular coconut oil and extra virgin coconut oil look extremely similar, which makes it nearly impossible to differ them with the naked eye. But the labels will help you to find out which oil you are dealing with. Another hint for extra virgin coconut oil is the fact that it will melt in your hand due to the body heat, whereas regular coconut oil won’t melt. Another difference is that refined (regular) coconut oil has a less strong taste and smell of coconuts than extra virgin coconut oil.
As no heat is used during the extraction process, all the nutrition and benefits are kept in the oil. Vitamins and minerals are retained and occur way more than in regular coconut oil. Moreover, extra virgin coconut oil contains good cholesterol, almost no trans fatty acids, more vitamins, antioxidants and minerals than regular and therewith refined coconut oil. Furthermore, its shelf life is extremely long – up to two and a half years!
To summarise this little overview of organic and raw extra virgin coconut oil, we want to tell you, that it is simply amazing for you and your body. We are sure that you already know about the benefits of coconut oil but if you want to refresh your knowledge, read our blog post about in which other ways you can use it. Coconut oil is very versatile and that makes it really easy for us to ingest it. So give yourself and your body a treat and put some Chi Coconut Oil in your shopping trolley next time you go to the shops.
The versatile coconut – products you didn’t know about
By now, we all know coconut water and that it is hugely healthy. But did you know that the coconut yields so many more products than only coconut water? The whole coconut fruit is used to produce different products and even parts of the coconut tree are used! Today, we want to present some things made out of the coconut fruit you might didn’t know.
Although, many of you already know coconut water, we briefly want to respond to it for those who just don’t know it yet.
Coconut water is probably the most popular coconut product people know. It is the liquid inside the coconut. One can drink it directly from the coconut (if you are lucky enough to live in a growing area) or you can buy it packaged. Coconut water is absolutely healthy (read about the benefits of coconut water here) and keeps you hydrated.
Coconut oil is made out of the coconut meat. It is extracted by cold pressing the meat until the oil is released. Coconut oil can be used in various ways, e.g. as cooking oil, in baking, as a hair mask and much more. Read about the usage of coconut oil on your body here.
Coconut butter is also extracted from the coconut meat. To gain the butter, the coconut meat is blended until it gets a smooth and creamy consistency. Coconut butter can be eaten plainly, as a spread on your toast or as a drizzle over desserts. It can be easily made at home by just blending coconut flakes until they are smooth.
To obtain coconut flour, coconut meat is dried and pulverised afterwards. Coconut flour can be used as a substitute to wheat flour and is a good alternative if you cannot stomach gluten. Coconut flour is mostly used for baking.
If you grate coconut meat, mix it with a splash of water and squeeze it afterwards, you will gain coconut milk. Coconut milk is used a lot as an alternative to cow’s milk but also for desserts, soups, in curries or simply to enrich the taste of (mostly Asian) dishes. Some other products made out of coconut milk are coconut yogurt, coconut ice-cream or coconut kefir. These products are very handy for allergy sufferers or vegans as they are completely dairy-free.
Coconut flakes are also made out of coconut meat by shredding and drying it. The flakes can be used in granola or baked goods, as a topping or just plain as a snack.
Admittedly, coconut sugar is not a product that is made directly from the coconut. It is extracted from the blossoms of the coconut tree. The blossoms contain a sap which is used to produce the coconut sugar. The sap is heated to remove the moisture. The end product is the coconut sugar which can be used as a substitute for white sugar in baking and cooking.
Wow, so there are a lot of different products we can gain from the coconut! That is amazing, isn’t it? But please note, that only a variety of products is presented here. There are a lot more things that can be made out of coconuts. Many of them can also be easily made at home, so get in the kitchen and have fun trying out!
10 ways to use coconut oil on your body
By now, we all know the overall benefits of coconut oil. But did you know, that coconut oil can also be used on the body? It is really versatile and you will be surprised how easy it is, to use a natural product instead of commercial (and often very unhealthy) products.
Below you can find a range of how coconut oil can be used as a body treatment.
1. Body lotion
If you want to have a natural body lotion free from additives and perfume, you can simply use coconut oil. Just rub a bit of the oil in your hands to warm it up. Apply it to your body like you would do with usual body lotion. You will get smooth and moisturised skin.
2. Body Scrub
Coconut oil can be perfectly used as a body scrub. It is easily made at home by mixing together coconut oil and coconut sugar. Apply the mixture on your body to get rid of dead skin cells. After the usage you will have soft and clean skin.
3. Hand cream
Use coconut oil on your hands if they are dry and chapped. For a better result lotion your hands generously with the oil and put gloves on overnight. You will have the softest hands afterwards.
4. Make up remover
To remove eye make up put some coconut oil on a cotton pad and gently rub down the make up. It is a very soft way to remove your make up and moisturise your skin at the same time.
5. Lip balm
The lip balms available in the shops are always packed with unhealthy ingredients. To get a natural and vegan lip balm, just use a bit of coconut oil on your lips. You won’t have dry or cracked lips ever again.
6. Dental care
Coconut oil is supporting you to absorb calcium and therefore, to have strong and healthy teeth. Tooth decay will be stopped and plaque formation can be reduced.
7. Hair mask
Once in a while you should treat your hair with a mask to keep it healthy. Coconut oil is a very good helper to protect your hair-ends against spliss and drought. Massage some coconut oil into the hair and let absorb. Shampoo as usual afterwards. For shiny hair do a hair mask once or twice a week.
8. Insect repellent
If you want to have an insect repellent that does not contain chemicals or additives, use coconut oil as your natural product. Mix coconut oil and essential oil together and apply it onto your skin. This has to be done regularly throughout the day to warrant protection against insects.
9. Skin disease
If you suffer from a skin disease, apply coconut oil on the affected area to alleviate symptoms. Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory and therefore, it is bland to the skin. As it is a natural product it won’t hurt while applying it on the skin.
10. After sun product
Coconut oil can be a helpful product if your skin got too much sun. The reddened and irritated skin is soothed and rehydrated by the oil. You should take care of your skin and avoid to stay in the sun for too long.
It is so easy to use a healthy, plant-based product instead of all the products we can find in the shops that contain harmful ingredients. Start today and live a better life.

12 reasons to drink Chi coconut water
Guest blogger Stephanie from Expert Home Tips is a big fan of our Chi drinks. Being passionate about food, fashion and lifestyle, she’s here to share 12 reasons why she is totally in love with coconut water – and why you should be too!
1) Chi coconut water is low in calories
Summer is well on its way and for many of us, that means cutting down on the calories a bit. Chi can help you get trim for your holiday. It’s much lower in calories than your average, store-bought drink, containing half the calories of orange juice (19 calories/100ml).
As Chi is also 100% natural, there are no nasties such as artificial colours and flavourings for your body to deal with. Pick up a bottle instead of your full-fat coke, and watch the pounds fall off.
2) Chi is high in fibre
The reasons to swap your soda for Chi just keep on coming.
A glass a day will help you work towards meeting your recommended fibre intake too. Fibre is essential for the digestion process, as it bulks up stools, allowing them to pass through the digestive tract more easily.
The recommended daily amount is around 30g for adults – a number Chi can help make achievable. Just 250ml will provide you with an impressive 7.5% of your RDA, compared with just 2% for the same quantity of orange juice.
As far as fibre is concerned, Chi coconut water comes out on top!
3) Chi is high in potassium
If you don’t know much about potassium, here’s a quick low-down:
Potassium is an electrolyte, required for the regulation of the body’s water level. It helps ensure you become neither dehydrated, nor retain excess water.
Chi’s high potassium content is one of the reasons people love drinking it as a sport’s drink. When we sweat whilst working out, we lose essential minerals along with water. A glass of Chi helps to replenish the fluids lost and rebalance the body.
Potassium has loads of other benefits too. It’s often used to treat migraines, cardiovascular health and constipation. With a 250ml glass containing 625mg of potassium, your 12.5% daily intake has never been easier to meet!
4) Chi coconut water is gentle on the stomach
Raw, organic and 100% natural – Chi’s is an ideal drink to soothe upset stomachs.
Chi contains loads of electrolytes and antioxidants inside each glass, helping to flush out toxins and rebalance the digestive system. Coconut water also contains tannins, which are known for reducing inflammation.
Stick to water and 100% natural coconut water and you should be feeling great again in no time.
5) No refined sugar
Now, I’m not saying coconut water is sugar-free. There are naturally occurring sugars in Chi, 3.71g/100ml to be exact.
These naturally occurring sugars are, however, completely different to the refined sugars you find in a can of pop. This is because fizzy drinks contain highly processed sugar, and little else. This sugar leads to a spike in insulin levels, leaving your hormones all over the place.
Chi’s, however, has a high nutritional value, including lots of dietary fibre. Fibre help the body absorb naturally occurring sugars more slowly, releasing regular energy over time.
6) Chi is high in magnesium
Magnesium plays a key role in so many of our bodies functions. Fall short on your recommended daily intake and you could experience muscle cramps, poor sleep and even anxiety.
Unlike fizzy drinks, which contain no magnesium at all, Chi is relatively rich in magnesium – a 250ml glass contains around 15% of your recommended daily allowance.
Chi could be the key to reaching your RDA of magnesium, supporting your body in over 300, complex enzyme reactions.
7) Chi could help lower your blood pressure
Worryingly, one in three adults in the UK has high blood pressure. It can happen to anyone, that’s why ensuring you live a lifestyle that actively prevents it is so important.
A balanced diet, including lots of fruit and vegetables (and Chi!), can help maintain a low blood pressure. Fresh, 100% natural produce contains plenty of potassium, which is key in regulating the effects on salt on the body.
Get enough potassium, and your helping your body to keep your blood pressure stable.
8) 100% natural Chi is extremely low in fat
The ‘fat debate’ has been going on for many years. Should we avoid them, or embrace them? And if the latter, which ones are the best? Well, the truth is that weneedfats to live.
Fats provide us with an extra source of energy when all of our carbohydrates are used up. Besides exercise, this energy is also essential for growth, brain function, healthy skin, and much more.
So fats should indeed be embraced, but it’s not an excuse to overindulge. Excess fat consumption can lead to high cholesterol and other health problems. In order to avoid this, the recommended daily saturated fat allowance of 24g should be adhered to.
In order not to exceed this, it’s best to have a balanced diet of both fatty and low-fat foods. Chi contains few (0.2g/100ml) and only naturally occurring fats, making it a healthy addition to your diet.
9) Chi is an ideal cleanser & toner for sensitive skin
So we’ve heard all about the nutritional benefits of Chi, but did you also know it can be used on skin?
When used on the skin, coconut water is extremely hydrating, leaving skin looking plumped and refreshed. Being 100% natural, raw and organic it’s a gentle cleanser for sensitive or problem-prone skin.
If you want to see what Chi is really made of, try using it to remove makeup. It’s extremely gentle and soothing – and also much cheaper than beauty brands. Use by applying to coconut wool pads and sweeping over the face.
10) Chi coconut water contains vitamin C
Anything with the word ‘vitamin’ in front of it has got to be good. Chi contains generous amounts of Vitamin C, which has a wide array of health benefits.
Vitamin C works to boost our immune system, making the body more adept at protecting us from sickness. Externally, it’s essential for wound repair, helping our bodies to grow connective tissues that heal our cuts. Best of all, Vitamin C plays an important role in the production of mood-enhancing chemicals in our body – drinking Chi really will make you smile!
11) Chi coconut water gives back
One of the best things about Chi is that it’s 100% honest. What you see on the packaging is what you get – nothing but 100% raw, organic coconut water.
But Chi isn’t just ethical in the product it provides – it goes a step further. Working hand in hand with Drop4Drop to deliver water wells to underdeveloped communities in India and Africa, Chi like to give a little back.
By choosing Chi coconut water, you’re also helping those most in need across the world. Every carton you buy gives communities safe access to one of the most vital human needs – water.
Chi’s benefits are never ending. For your health, for your skin, for the environment and for other, less-fortunate people around the world, there’s no comparable coconut water in the UK.
12) Chi coconut water is available in different flavours
If you’re the type of person that gets bored easily, you’ll be pleased to know Chi has many different flavours to explore. From a Cold Brew Coffee & Raw Coconut Water to get you going in the morning to a 100% Pure Coconut Water & Pineapple for post-workout revitalisation, there’s a Chi coconut water perfect for every occasion.
As if we needed any more reasons to drink Chi!

As Autumn comes in with September, a nostalgic feeling of going back to school brings about a renewed motivational urge to ‘start afresh‘. For most, this may mean getting back into shape, becoming fit or eating more healthily (perhaps all of the above). These feelings are commonly universal to those who want to redeem themselves after a Summer binge of gelato and rose. Therefore, an Autumn detox is more or less necessary to help prevent the accumulation of extra ‘baggage’ i.e. a comfortable layer of insulation for those Winter months.
Chi explores some ways to keep motivated with health and fitness on track…
Eat clean with a designer lunchbox
Make lunches more exciting with Yumbox who are all about eating a balanced and healthy meal. A range of colourful but practical lunch boxes for adults and kids allows you to balance and portion your meal with separate compartments for your main meal, side salad and fruit. What’s more, using a lunch box reduces plastic waste and the leak proof lid means no nasty surprises in your bag!
Go refined sugar free
Satisfy your sweet tooth through other ways. Try recipe books such as:
Did you know that you should change your work out trainers every 6 months? (on average). If you are running, trainer experts at Asics recommend that trainers should be changed every 450 – 550 miles. Although this may be difficult to calculate with other work out sports which are not as high impact, signs of wear and tear other than looking at the underside should be noted. This may be:
If the midsole shows excessive horizontal creasing or wear on the areas that absorb the most load – the heel and the ball of the foot
Try out the ‘press test’ – where you press on the outsole of the shoe and inspect for compression. If the outsole gives very little, that means that the material is highly compressed and is not giving any support to your feet at all.
Gym anywhere with ClassPass
Now there is no excuse to say that your gym is too far away from your home, or your work place. Class pass allows you to go to any class that you wish around the world! Tried and tested… and highly recommended; from boxing to yoga to pilates. The range and variety of classes can maintain motivation to stay fit and healthy. As well s this, the flexibility of ClassPass means that you can book into a nearby gym class at the very last minute (provided the class is not fully booked).
Having a fitness goal to work towards immediately motivates you to train hard in order to achieve the end goal. Therefore, setting yourself a challenge out of your comfort zone, and one that you would not usually consider, may inspire mental and physical motivation. Here are a couple events in the UK that may tickle your fancy:
Established in 2010, with more than 200 events in the UK and attracting over 2.5 million participants, Tough Mudder is globally renowned as a challenging obstacle race for those who want a little more adrenaline and excitement than a marathon.
Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile mud and obstacle course (20+ obstacles) taking you out of your comfort zone and challenging your physical strength, stamina and mental grit. There are no podiums, winners or clocks to race against, its not about how fast you can finish the race but rather a challenge that emphasis teamwork, camaraderie, and accomplishing something almost as tough as you are.
There are a series of various events other than the original Tough Mudder (10-12k) to suit different preferences:
Tough Mudder half: test your physical skills first with this shorter 5 mile obstacle course before tackling the Tough Mudder
Toughest Mudder: 8 hour obstacle course between midnight – 8am
World’s Toughest Mudder: need to have qualified through the Toughest Mudder as this is an extreme 24 hour obstacle course challenge
With the excitement of the Rio Olympics now a distant dream, we now reflect and put a spotlight on Brazil’s tropical and hearty cuisine. The idea of Brazil conjures up the dreamy picture of palm trees, sandy beaches and nothing other than coconuts! And so when visiting Rio, it is difficult to ignore the abundance of fresh coconuts, whether sunbathing on Ipanema beach or being a tourist high up at Christ the Redeemer. No wonder coconuts in all its forms feature in some of Brazil’s most iconic traditional dishes and drinks!
The coconut palm in Sanskrit is known as kappa vrisksha, translated as: ‘tree which gives all that is necessary for living‘. This is somewhat true in the fact that almost all parts of the coconut can be used in one way or another; the water, milk, flesh, sugar, oil and even the husks and leaves!
The extent of coconut’s multi use is seen in these pictures below!
Coconut shells can be used primarily as bowls, or even for wood furniture.
Coconuts are known for their high nutritional content; rich in fibre, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous. The fat in coconuts are considered ‘good’ fats in the form of medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs). Focusing on one fatty acid in particular, lauric acid, it is converted in the body into a highly beneficial compound called monolaurin – an antiviral and antibacterial compound that destroys a variety of disease causing organisms. Therefore the consumption of coconut in its many forms: coconut oil, coconut water, coconut milk or even coconut flour, is therefore incredibly beneficial for ones health and in fighting infections and viruses.
Coconut based products are especially popular with health enthusiasts, vegans and those that are lactose intolerant as coconut milk in particular is lactose free. Coconut milk is therefore a widely used as a milk substitute and diary alternative in baking.
Without further ado, we explore some Brazilian coconut recipes, some traditional and some with a modern twist!
Beijinho de Coco a.k.a Coconut Kisses
Balls of sweet goodness!
Sweetened condensed milk x1 can
Sweetened desiccated coconut 1/4 cup
Butter 1 tbsp
Desiccated coconut for decoration
Whole cloves for decorating
Step 1: Bring milk and butter to a simmer in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Continue to cook, stirring often, until the milk has reduced to half and thickened, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in the 1/4 cup coconut, and allow to cool a bit before pouring into a buttered bowl. Chill in the refrigerator until cold, about 2 hours.
Step 2: With buttered or oiled hands, form milk mixture into tablespoon-sized balls, and roll in coconut flakes. Stick a clove into each beijinho as decoration.
Baked desert made of egg yolks, sugar and ground coconut flakes
A favourite from the region of Bahia quindim is a glossy yellow sweet made with nothing more than eggs, sugar and coconut (with butter a common addition). Baked in cupcake-sized moulds, or large if you wish, the bottom is toasted and golden, dense with grated coconut, while the top is a smooth, firm custard that sticks pleasingly to the roof of the mouth.
White sugar x1 cup
Shredded coconut x1 cup
Softened butter 1 tbsp
Egg yolk x5
Egg white x1
Step 1: Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
Step 2: Mix the sugar, coconut, and butter in a bowl. Stir in the egg yolks and the egg white; beat until well combined. Pour the mixture into a 9 inch pie plate. Place the pie plate in a large roasting pan. Pour enough boiling water into the bottom of the roasting pan to reach about half-way up the side of the pie plate.
Step 3: Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown on top, about 30 minutes. Allow to cool completely before turning out onto a serving dish. Refrigerate until serving.
The Brazilan chocolate trifle
Layers of cookies filled with chocolate or fruit, lemon, coconut
For the chocolate layer
20 ladyfinger biscuits
2-3 Tbsp Cognac
2 cups whole milk
1.5 cups cocoa powder
For the cream layer
2 cans sweet condensed milk
4 cups milk (or use the sweet condensed milk’s can to measure)
2 Tbsp corn starch
4 egg yolks (strained)
For the whipped cream layer
1 small container heavy cream
1 cup powdered sugar
½ tsp pure vanilla extract
Step 1: In a large pot, combine the sweet condensed milk and 3 cups of the milk.
Step 2: Dissolve the corn starch in one cup of milk and add to the pot. Cook that mixture over low to medium heat, stirring constantly, until it starts thickening.
Step 3: Separate a cup of the mixture and let it cool.
Step 4: Add the egg yolks to the cooled cream and return it to the pot. Cook until it thickens.
Step 5: Let it cool and pour into a 15×10 baking dish.
Step 6: Place the biscuits into a large bowl and the Cognac into another smaller bowl.
Step 7: Using your fingers, sprinkle the Cognac onto the biscuits.
Step 8: In the same pot you used for the cream, add 2 cups of milk and 1.5 cups of cocoa powder. Cook until it resembles hot chocolate. (It’s supposed to be a liquid mixture, and not a cream!)
Step 9: Dip the biscuits into the chocolate and place them on top of the cream. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Step 10: On the next day, make some whipped cream by mixing the heavy cream, the powdered sugar and the vanilla extract. Pour the whipped cream into the baking dish, creating a 3rd layer.
Step 11: Refrigerate for at least 1 more hour before serving.
Step 12: Grate or shave some chocolate on top of the pavê and serve cold.

Acai a.k.a superfood berry is used to make fruit bowls and smoothies
Those bright purples bowls you see on Instagram #superhealthy
Of all the thousands of fruits from the Amazon, açaí is the best known, thanks to its super-food status. Traditionally eaten by indigenous tribes for energy, the hard purple berry is also used in Amazonian cooking, as a sauce with fish. A clever marketing campaign in the ’80s thrust it into the spotlight as the energy snack of choice for surfers in glamorous Rio de Janeiro. Served as a sweet, gloopy, frozen sorbet, sometimes topped with granola and slices of banana, or whizzed up in juices, it can found in every café, bakery, juice bar and supermarket across the country.
Tip: add some desiccated coconut on top and serve in a coconut shell for that extra coco-nutty touch!

Julie Montagu- ‘The Flexi Foodie’
70,000 commuters pass through Old Street Station every day who are tired, stressed and not at all present. Research shows that we’re one of the most affected European cities when it comes to transport disruption and as a result mental wellbeing is affected severely. Last year a survey of more than 5500 commuters in London, Rome, Barcelona, Berlin, Madrid and Paris found that some rate the worry and strain of the commute to work on a par with a relationship breakdown – and often worse than the job itself! This week-long takeover offers a real opportunity to alleviate the stress of daily London commuting and get more people involved in yoga.
So, what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets now for the opportunity to break up your stressful commute and rehydrate with Chi at the Good Yoga Life Old Street Takeover. The link for tickets can be found by clicking here.
‘Low fat’ products could be the cause of Britain’s obesity crisis
A headline aired on LBC Radio Station this morning has suggested that the cause of Britain’s obesity problem could be that we have received incorrect dietary advice for decades. The National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration have produced a report stating that the nation’s beliefs concerning what makes a healthy diet are false. Although it has been assumed that low-fat diets are the key to good health, now commentators claim that fats are essential to a balanced lifestyle and do not encourage weight gain. High fat foods such as avocados are in fact beneficial, while the real culprits are processed foods labeled as ‘low fat’ that often contain hidden sugars to compensate in taste for removed fat.
Dr. Aseem Malhotra, founding member of the Public Health Collaboration, claimed that guidelines promoting low fat products are ‘perhaps the biggest mistake in modern medical history resulting in devastating consequences for public health’. Instead, he promotes the consumption of fats ‘to get slim’. Indeed, the BBC documentary aired in 2015 titled ‘The Truth About Sugar’ explored the great extent to which sugar is hidden in processed foods such as low fat ready meals. The show followed the journey of four volunteers who slashed their sugar intake in a bid to lose weight. The results were impressive: 3 of the volunteers lost almost a stone each.
Fiona Phillips, presenter of BBC Documentary ‘The Truth About Sugar’, highlights hidden sugar in ‘low fat’ products
Similarly, recently celebrity chef Jamie Oliver launched his ‘war on sugar’ through his campaign aiming to underline sugar as the leading contributor to health problems in the UK owing to its persistent presence in supposedly healthy options in supermarkets. He has shown great support for George Osborne’s agenda to introduce a tax on sugar to reduce obesity that is to be implemented in 2018.
Instead of choosing products branded as ‘low fat’ or ’low cholesterol’, it seems that the way forward is a balanced diet free of added sugars and enriched with whole foods including those high in healthy fats.

– boosting your immune system
– preventing skin health
– loosing weight
– Anti-aging effects and more…

THE best foods for the best sleep!
Meditation, picking up a good book, even counting sheep. We’ve all tried them and they all claim to help you switch off and drift off to the land of nod.
As well as sparking an irritable mood and general feelings of misery, a lack of sleep is detrimental to a person’s health.
Countless studies have warned of the dangers of not getting between six to eight hours sleep a night – generally accepted as the gold standard in sleep terms.
As well as relaxation techniques and ditching your blue-light emitting smartphone and tablet, there is another way to maximise the chances of getting a good night’s sleep.
A healthy diet, including key food groups packed with snooze-inducing nutrients and vitamins.
Here we reveal our favourite..
1. SLOW-RELEASE CARBS
Carbohydrates that slowly release energy into the body, such as oats or oatcakes, and brown rice, can help transform a person’s sleep pattern.
Whole grains help to keep the levels of sugar (glucose) in your blood stable, and so provide your body with sustained energy. Your brain and body still need glucose to keep working.
If levels fall too low, this can cause the release of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol, which can wake you up.
If you have your last meal a long time before going to bed, try eating a half-size bowl of porridge or a couple of oatcakes with nut butter later in the evening
Sugary foods and refined white carbohydrates can have the opposite effect, as they quickly enter and leave the bloodstream, leaving your blood low in glucose again after only a short period of time.
High protein foods, such as meat, fish, beans and lentils, seeds and nuts are also vital in helping promote a better night’s sleep.
Protein foods provide the amino acid, tryptophan, which converts into the hormones serotonin and melatonin, which melatonin is needed for a good sleep.
‘Melatonin in particular is needed for good sleep.’
However, avoid too much high-protein food in the last few hours before bed however, as they can be hard to digest – especially red meat and nuts,’ Ms Wilkinson warned.
3. PUMPKIN SEEDS
Pumpkin seeds are high in natural magnesium, making them beneficial to those people who struggle to drift off each night.
One of the roles of magnesium is allowing the muscle fibres in our body to relax, it counteracts calcium, which causes muscles to contract. It is also thought that magnesium has a role in the normal function of the pineal gland, which produces melatonin – a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and helps us to fall asleep.
4. COCONUT WATER
A glass of pure, raw, Chi coconut water in the evening could help you to have a restful night’s sleep, coconut water is an excellent source of electrolyte minerals: potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and sodium.
Balanced levels of these minerals are necessary to maintain normal muscle action, nerve function and hydration in our body.
Deficiencies or imbalances can cause cramping and restless legs at night, and therefore disturbed sleep.
Zinc-rich foods such as oysters and other seafood, whole grains and nuts, especially pecans and brazil nuts, will help send you off to the land of nod, Dr Glenville said.
‘Zinc is also needed for conversion of tryptophan into serotonin and melatonin,’ she added.
6. HERBAL TEAS
For many, nothing soothes them into a dreamy state better than a warm cuppa. But, it is vital you avoid regular builders tea, which is high in caffeine.
Calming herbal teas such as chamomile, passionflower or valerian, or specific sleep blends can be helpful to drink before bedtime.

Cut down on sugar for 2016!
You know how bad it is to eat sugar but it’s hard to stop. The latest research has proved that sugar is more addictive than tobacco, more dangerous than alcohol, more fattening than fat. You may not be eating Oreos by the roll or guzzling cans of Coke, but that doesn’t mean sugar’s absent from your diet. Nowadays added sugar is everywhere even in a food that doesn’t taste sweet such as bread, sauces or crisps. In this article we will give you all the tips to eat less sweet food!
Sugar is an addiction like cocaine! It can be really hard to stop eating it! first we have to understand why? If you’re addicted to sugar, there is an emotional component. You’re craving and overindulging in sugar for a reason – you may be eating sugar to care for your emotions, to manage stress, or to care for your emotional, psychological or relational needs.
So now lower your sugar intake with these 8 easy ways:
1. Read the label
You will realise how often sugar is included to foods. Ingredients are listed in order of how much exists in the product, so if sugar is near the top, that’s a red flag.
2. Don’t look for just the word ‘sugar’
Sugar hides under several sneaky names, including high fructose corn syrup, dried cane syrup, invert sugar, molasses, sucrose (or any word ending in “-ose”), brown rice syrup, honey, and maple syrup.
3. Buy the right products
Once you know where sugar hides, you can start making changes. Buy foods labeled “no added sugar” or “unsweetened.”
4. Take your time
In cutting down on sugar takes time. As we said sugar is like a drug so the beginning will be hard but the easiest way is reduce your consumption of sugar. If you normally put two packets of sugar in your coffee, for instance, try one for a week, then half, and finally add only a splash of milk.
Studies showed that sugar doesn’t cause proper satiety but it does make you hungry. So to avoid any craving, the best things to do is:
Eating breakfast every morning
Including fat and protein in your meals
Eating regular meals
Drinking more water
6. Sugar free, no calorie…?
Be careful don’t be tempting to buy the products with sugar free or no calorie write on it. The processed food manufactures are clever instead to use normal sugar they use aspartame or other substitute but they are even worst. When you eat something sweet, your body expects calories and nutrition, but artificial sugars don’t give your body those things.
7. Add flavours to your meals
Adding flavours will help you to eat less carbohydrate foods. Skip the flavored oatmeal and add a sweet kick with cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
8. Don’t drink it
Even drinks that are considered healthy can contain more of the sweet stuff than you’re supposed to have in an entire day. Case in point: “enhanced” waters (eight teaspoons per bottle), bottled iced teas (more than nine teaspoons per bottle), energy drinks (almost seven teaspoons per can), bottled coffee drinks (eight teaspoons per bottle), and store-bought smoothies (more than a dozen teaspoons—for a small).
9. Indulge yourself
It’s okay to have sometime a little treat but it needs to be occasionally.
NO ADDED SUGAR – NO PRESERVATIVES – NEVER HEATED

Rainbow Granola with Chi Coconut Oil
It’s easy to overlook this important meal when the pressure is on to get the turkey in the oven. But we all need breakfast for a good start to the day, so before you and your family delve into your presents, remember to tuck into a good breakfast too.
Try making your regular breakfast cereal more special than usual with one or more of the following ideas:
serving it with pieces of fresh apple and pear
you could throw in a few nuts, or dried festive fruits such as figs and dates
Or why not add a handful of brightly coloured berries to your breakfast, such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries or strawberries? You can usually buy berries frozen, even when they’re out of season.
Frozen fruit and veg, as well as fresh, tinned and dried, all count towards the 5-a-day fruit and veg target.
If you’re a granola person, why not jazz up your daily serving with:
several slices of fresh tangerine and banana
a few grapes
a handful of seeds or nuts
Here’s a festive granola recipe using Chi coconut oil.
Mix all ingredients together and toss until fully coated with coconut oil and Sweet Freedom
Spread mixture on a baking tray with grease-proof paper lining.
Bake for 10-12 minutes
Break apart after baking into bite-size chunks.
Store in an airtight container for 2-3 weeks

With every purchase of CHI you are feeding farmers and giving running water to underdeveloped communities!
Thank you to all our loyal customers;)
As the day are getting colder, you don’t know how to dress with the temperature changing . One day it’s warm another day it’s cold… The perfect season to get a cold! At Chi HQ we all had a cold, sneezing a hundred times per day, blowing your nose until it becomes red. Want to know how to get through your cold quickly? Your doctor can’t do much to cure it. However, some foods and drinks can cut a cold short!
If you want to know what you should eat or drink during a cold, this article is for you;)
1. What to eat?
Lemon and orange
Lemon and orange are full of vitamin C, which may help shorten a cold and work as a natural decongestant. Aim for 500 mg of vitamin C four times a day. Other good sources of vitamin C include strawberries, tomatoes, and broccoli.
Hot soup raises the temperature in your nose and throat, creating an inhospitable environment for viruses that prefer cooler, drier climes.
Hot chili peppers contain capsaicin, the compound that gives them their kick and acts as a decongestant to help relieve a stuffy nose. Can’t stand the heat? Mild bell peppers can help, too. They don’t have capsaicin, but they’re full of vitamin C.
Garlic and ginger
During cold and flu season, one popular folk remedy is to eat a spoonful of raw, chopped garlic cloves – or even to gnaw right on a fresh clove! Not excited to eat raw garlic? You can try to put some in your vegetable smoothie or just make some toast with it and add some olive oil.
What to drink?
Drink plenty of liquids to stay hydrated during a cold, and make sure they’re hot. Black tea helps soothe a sore throat and chase away the chills with a good dose of virus-fighting interferon. Add some honey and a squeeze of lemon for vitamin C.
Raw coconut water
Hydration is so important especially when you have a cold. To achieve proper hydration, your body needs electrolytes to help maintain a state of fluid balance. Coconut water is a perfect source of electrolytes, you can find even more electrolytes in the Chi Raw coconut water, because it’s 100% Raw, not heated! It’s the freshest coconut water that you can find.
Trick or treat? TREATTTTT! Halloween night is coming in a few weeks! Are you going to a party or watch a scary movie with your friends? Either way you need YUMMY snacks. Chi and its favourite brands are here to provide you with all you need 😉

Prevent Cancer with Chi Raw coconut water!
Nowadays more and more people are fighting cancer than ever before. Hundreds of thousand people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. There are over 200 different types, each with its own symptoms, methods of diagnosis and treatment.
Several researchers claim the health properties of coconuts are numerous, including its ability to prevent cancer, how wonderful is that?! Coconut water is amazing at getting rid of the symptoms and damage done by chemotherapy. It is an electrolyte, it oxygenates the blood, it restores the ANC count, white blood count, haemoglobin, platelets, etc. As if that weren’t enough, because it is an anti-microbial, it can also help to reduce microbes inside cancer cells and aim to revert them into normal cells. In other words, it can be a fighting force of cancer treatment!
Sounds too good to be true?
You have to keep in mind that current research is too preliminary to confirm. But with all the benefits coconut water contains we are really optimistic.
Note: you must use fresh “young coconuts” and extract the coconut water.
For cancer prevention and overall good health, there is no substitute for the three basics: an overall healthy diet, staying a healthy weight, and daily physical activity.
What are Superfoods?
The last few years, we’ve seen a lot of foods labeled ‘superfoods’, but what are superfoods? There is no legal or medical definition. It’s generally accepted that superfoods contain high levels of much-needed vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Eating them may help prevent diseases and they make you healthier and aid weight loss too.
Here is your 10 best superfoods:
The acai berry contains antioxidants, substances that fight harmful molecules, known as one of the few fruits with oleic acid—the same heart-healthy fat in olive oil.
Almonds are rich in monounsaturated fats; much research now links this type of fat with a reduced risk of heart disease. These nuts are one of the richest sources of vitamin E, which help to protect against UV light damage and Alzheimer’s disease.
Who’d have thought?! Raw chocolate contains many important vitamins and minerals including:
Magnesium, and other essential minerals including calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium, and manganese
Polyphenols called flavonoids, with antioxidant properties
Vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, E
Essential heart-healthy fat: oleic acid a monounsaturated fat
4. GREEN TEA
Green tea contains B vitamins, folate (naturally occurring folic acid), manganese, potassium, magnesium, caffeine and other antioxidants, notably catechins.
Coconut contains properties that can prevent, or even cure, a wide range of ailments from heart disease to Alzheimer’s. Especially coconut oil which has so many benefits such as:
Protects against heart disease by increasing good cholesterol and lowering the ratio of bad and good cholesterol.
Helps treat malnutrition because it is easy to digest and absorb.
Kills disease-causing bacteria, fungi, yeasts and viruses because of the antimicrobial effects of its fatty acids.
Helps diabetics by slowing sugar release into the bloodstream.
Prevents strokes and brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Boosts metabolism and increases energy because it is more likely to be burned as fuel than stored as body fat.
Salmon is a superfood because it’s high in omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that seems to decrease the risk of heart disease.
The health benefits of kale go well beyond providing a truckload of vitamins and minerals; this superfood is packed with phytonutrients such as glucosinolates and flavonoids as well. Thanks to its broad nutritional profile, kale is thought to help fight cardiovascular disease, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis; to prevent several types of cancer and pre-mature aging of the skin; and to promote the health of the urinary tract.
Often referred to as the supergrain, quinoa is high in fibre and high-quality protein. In fact, it contains more protein than any other grain while also packing in iron and potassium.
Lentils are rich in complex carbohydrates, a nutrient that boosts the metabolism and helps the body to burn fat. They are an excellent source of fibre, which can help reduce cholesterol levels. Lentils are also an outstanding source of folate and magnesium.
10. GREEK YOGURT
Yogurt is actually cultured milk that is thickened by healthy bacteria. Lactic acid is produced and this process thickens the yogurt and creates the tart flavour. It can help to maintain a healthy digestive tract, as well as reduce high blood pressure and promote a healthy heart.

Drop4Drop Clean Water Project for the Vadapada Community
We are delighted with the update from the charity we support, Drop4Drop, on the news that the clean drinking water project for the community in Vadapada, has now officially been completed.
Vadapada is an area in Umarpada Taluk in Surat District of Gujurat, home to 450 people. We are over the moon that with our collaboration, we were able to change the lives for many of these people in the community. In rural areas of India, water resource is a major crisis and for the large population of people living in these areas, planned water resources tends to get left out. This is a major concern and results to poor and difficult accessibility to clean water supply. With our support, we have made this dream of having clean and easy access to water, a reality to this community.
Mrs Bhagyashri Sandesh Taral, 27 years old from Vadapada:
‘“Before this, I used to wake up early in the morning to walk 1 km to collect water. So, every day I start my farm work late and so return home in the evening late too. Now I am relaxed, I can access enough water near my home and this saves me so much time.”
It is a pleasure that we can make a change to so many people’s lives and this makes the team at Chi very happy! Our goal is to continue working on these projects to help improve more peoples lives living in these rural communities.
The natural way to whiten your teeth
Have you always wanted to have perfect white teeth? You’ve tried all the whitening toothpastes and strips out there in the shops, in hopes for your teeth to whiten but they have been no use. You’ve still remained disappointed with the results and may have even damaged your teeth as a result. There are loads of expensive teeth whitening products, but what you are missing is that many of these that are ‘natural’ are Coconut Oil based. At Chi HQ we believe the solution is simple. How does Chi Coconut Oil do this?
Coconut oil is a natural remedy used to clean and detoxify your teeth and gums. This is called ‘oil pulling’ which the lauric acid found in the coconut oil removes the naughty plaque that makes our teeth go yellow. This doesn’t give you instant whitening but gradually over time you will see a difference.
All you have to do is spoon out 1 tbsp of Chi Coconut Oil (or less) and push, swish and ‘pull’ the oil through and around your teeth for 10-15 minutes so it is coated. After this time, rinse all the chi coconut oil out with water and brush your teeth with mint toothpaste.
***Repeat this process every morning and you will start to notice the difference. Those natural pearly whites you’ve always dreams of, will now become a reality! That means you’ll have to keep smile wherever you are!

Freeze for a further 2-3 hours, until fully frozen. To enjoy, run the mould under a little hot water to loosen the Ice-lollies.
Vegan, sugar-free magnum choco-blocks
What you need:
8 Ice cream moulds
Ingredients (makes 8):
For the ice cream:
2 ripe bananas, frozen
1 400mL can full fat coconut milk, chilled if possible
For the ice cream: Pop the ice cream ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into ice cream moulds, add your sticks and pop into the freezer to set overnight.
For the chocolate: Put all the ingredients into a pan and heat on a very low heat until you create a smooth consistency. Be careful not to burn/overcook.
When you get the ice creams out, allow to defrost for a few minutes so they come out of the moulds easily. Alternatively run the moulds under hot water to loosen the edges.
To make the magnum…
Classic: Dip the ice cream into a bowl of chocolate. Use a icing knife to smooth out any edges but be quick because it should set almost immediately. Repeat to create a nice thick layer of chocolate. Pop back into the freezer for a few minutes to completely freeze. Enjoy!
Almond: As per Magnum Classic, but add a handful of slithered almonds to sandwich between chocolate layers.
Peppermint: As per Magnum Classic, but add 1 tablespoon of mint extract (or to taste), a handful of fresh mint and a few drops of green food colouring/spirulina to the ice cream mixture.
Storage: in a freezer safe container in the freezer for up to 5 days.

As we all know it’s so important to drink water, particularly during a workout. But what should we drink during intense exercise? Its hard to find a drink that will keep you hydrated and give you the energy needed. In this article you will find a few suggestions of drinks that you could drink during your workout.
First we have to understand what our body needs.
When we sweat we loose a lot electrolytes. Here are the common electrolytes that we loose during working out:
– Sodium & Calcium
You must replace them by drinking a fluid that contains electrolytes. Water does not contain electrolytes.
Also we need carbs to refuel & give you energy and proteins helps to repair any damage.
What is the right amount to drink?
Doctors recommend to drink 8 ounces every 15 minutes during workout and to ‘drink to thirst’. But don’t drink too much because consuming a lot of fluid but not enough sodium can develop an hyponatremia condition. However this case is really rare most people don’t drink enough!
So what to drink?
For sure water is the easiest solution, it’s fine to consume it when it’s not an intense workout. But water doesn’t contain electrolytes.
Chi Raw Coconut Water suits an intense workout perfectly as it contains a high level of electrolytes and also it gives you the energy needed from its natural sugars.
Doctors recommend to have protein & carbs after workout. As we saw previously, protein repairs any muscle damage and carbs give you energy. So it’s time to make some delicious smoothies with Chi Coconut Milk!
Everywhere you can hear ‘eat less sugar, sugar is bad for you’. Of course, you would like to eat less sugar, but it’s hard and you don’t know how. Don’t worry. I am here to help you figure out how to reduce sugar to become healthier.
So first let’s try to understand why we love sugar so much?
All humans have loved sugar for years and years. Sweet is associated with the notion of pleasure and reward in our brain. When we eat sugar we secrete dopamine (the neurotransmitter of pleasure) so obviously, as it’s joyful to eat sugar, you just want to repeat this behaviour. That’s why all the junk food is full of sugar even in salty foods.
How to eat less sugar?
You have to change your bad habits and relearn how to eat healthy without being on crazy diets. Just choose healthy food with good quality, fruits & vegetables and eat less processed foods as possible. Changing habits will take time but you will see the difference in the long term and you will also change your taste. Time to try new things!
What are the alternatives to sugar?
The best alternative to sugar is fruits such as bananas, grapes, strawberries… they are full of vitamins and they contain a lot nutritional content. However, beware of pure fruit juice, as you are just drinking pure fructose which will turn to fat.
You have some healthy sugar such as:
Coconut palm sugar (extracted sap of the coconut palm, boiled and dehydrated)
Date sugar (dehydrated, ground dates)
Brown rice syrup (brown rice, which is cooked and then exposed to enzymes which breaks it down into sugar)
Why not try our Raw Coconut Water – no added sugar! As nature intended!
Lovely Brunch Recipes
The weekend is coming! Woohoo!
During the weekend you just want to enjoy your lazy morning with a nice brunch to share with your family or your friends. But you don’t know what to make? At Chi we have some tasty recipes to illuminate your morning.
For these brunch recipes we focused on egg omelette because there are so many benefits to eating eggs in the morning. A lot of studies showed that eating eggs help you to maintain a calorie deficit and lose weight. Not to mention they are really easy to make!
Add Chi coconut oil to a non-stick pan and heat over medium-high heat.
Add eggs, orange zest, salt, pepper and coconut milk to a small mixing bowl and give this a good whisk, until slightly frothy.
Pour that mixture into the preheated pan and swirl it around to spread your omelette evenly over the entire surface of the pan.
Let the omelette settle for a few seconds then run a heat resistant rubber spatula around the edge to sort of break it down a little bit, then start swirling again.
You want some of the uncooked eggs from the top to get under the omelette. Don’t be afraid to break it up a little bit.
Repeat that process 2 or 3 times until the top really starts to set. Remove from heat and let your omelette sit for a few minutes until the top is completely (or almost completely) set. You can cover it if you want to speed things up a bit…
Delicately slide your omelette onto serving plate, (fold it in half while doing so if desired) and garnish with fresh (or dry, or toasted) unsweetened coconut shavings.
This weekend Chi was at the London Ethnic event for ‘Fashion Revolution Day’ which was launched after the horrific Rana Plaza catastrophe in Dhaka, Bangladesh the 24 April 2013.The factory collapse led to 1133 victims dead and thousands more injured, casting a dark shadow over the history of fashion.
The event took place at the Lollipop Gallery in London on the 24th of April 2015 for the fashion workers who lost their lives that terrible day. London Ethnic event was there to raise money for their families and increase awareness of the human work exploitation in fashion. And also the importance of ethical & sustainable principles in the fashion industry.
The fashion presentation was run by a brand new designs from the London Ethnic House produced in collaboration with in-house designers Eleanor Johnson and Nuria Carvajal Garcia with designer Reece Walywn Curtis. The London Ethnic AW15 collection was inspired by the London Skyline and street colouring transformed into simplistic shapes in the hues of blue and grey.
Here are some nice pictures of the event!

What makes Chi raw coconut water different to other coconut waters?
Firstly, with Chi raw coconut wateryou will get real coconut water. Noting added. Nothing taken away. So it means both the taste and nutritional content are unchanged. How we do that? Unlike other coconut waters that are heat pasteurised, our raw coconut is unheated. We use HPP ( High pressure processing) technology – a process that keeps the fresh attributes of the coconut water.
What are the benefits of drinking raw coconut water?
Many researchers have shown raw coconut water to be healthy for you.
Here are some benefits:

What does it taste like?
We only use hand-picked young Nam-Hom coconuts – the tastiest variety of coconut in the world. What is remarkable about this variety of exotic coconut? They produce sweeter water.
Is yours pink?
Don’t worry, it is just a natural occurrance and is due to active anti-oxidants found within coconut water. It is even a good sign that means that the level of antioxidants is high. Being healthy every day is not easy. Extracted vegetable juices can be the solution for you. But how can veggie juices be so healthy? That’s because all the nutrient contents from the vegetables remain intact and gives you only the concentrated liquid which is full of the vitamins. Here are just some of the benefits that you will get from veggie juices:
Instant energy due to the better absorption of the fresh vitamins and the vital minerals. It is specialy good after workout!
Weight loss – most nutritionists advise to drink vegetable juices for a healthy diet.
It helps your digestion by cleansing your stomach and your intestines.

We are so excited for you to taste this delicious product: totally untampered with – Left as nature intended it to be left (perfect!). Available at OCADO, Whole Foods, Planet Organic with more stockists being added monthly.
FRESH – NO ADDED SUGAR – NO PRESERVATIVES – COLD-EXTRACTION – ORGANIC – NEVER HEATED – 100% PURE – RAW – NOT FROM CONCENTRATE.
So how do we get it?
The coconut water found within young green coconuts in Thailand is very easily altered when heated. That is why when you drink coconut water which is not raw, it does’t quite bring back that same memory of sipping coconuts on holiday – however refreshing and lovely it may be. However, Chi has found a way to keep the fresh coconut water in Thailand in its natural RAW form! We use high pressure processing to do this – keeping the coconut water cold at all times: from when the coconut is cracked open by our farmers to the moment you pick it up from the shelves in your closest store. High pressure processing allows the coconut water to have a longer refrigerated shelf life while also allowing all the natural flavours to remain exactly the same. We do not add any preservatives or heating to the product – it is simply simple! This means that the nutritional content is also unchanged.
Watch this video on how we make our coconut water:
Our coconuts come from a region called ‘Ratchaburi’ in Western Thailand where the rich soil and tropical climate offer the perfect environment for producing uniquely great tasting coconuts. The word Ratchaburi means “The land of the king” and the provence is located 80km west of Bangkok, bordering Burma. The soil is perfect for coconuts to grow here – with the Mae Klong River flowing through the centre of Ratchaburi town. Hence why Thailand is renowned for producing the world’s best tasting coconut water.
Why go RAW?
The main reason to go RAW is for the taste – incredibly fresh and unique! However, other reasons may be that Chi RAW coconut water is packed with naturally occurring electrolyte minerals including potassium, calcium and magnesium. We only use hand-picked young Nam-Hom coconuts – always harvested at the perfect moment for peak nutrition! We never mix the ages or varieties of our coconuts – giving a consistently fresh and pure taste.
Our RAW coconut water is also sustainable – as Chi trades fairly. We are contributing to the environmental impact of production: creating a sustainable balance between farming and wild ecosystems. Chi RAW coconut also works hand in hand with ‘Drop4Drop.org’ in order to deliver water wells to communities that need it most.
Why does RAW coconut water go pink?
This is a natural occurrence and it is due to active anti-oxidants found within coconut water. It is nature’s way of blushing!
The colour doesn’t change the taste, it is still so good.
Where you can find our Raw Coconut Water?

chi coconut oil in my breakfast
Do you skip breakfast in the morning? Or find your breakfast habits tend to be slightly repetitive? We all know it can sometimes be difficult to find new and exciting ideas to make your breakfast that extra bit special; especially for those early wake ups where you’re still half asleep! At Chi, we believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and should not be skipped. It kick-starts your metabolism, keeps you feeling fuller for longer and will stop you fighting against those cheeky cravings through the day.
Chi Coconut Oil is the perfect ingredient to spruce up your morning meals. It adds a subtle sweetness and a healthy dose of fat to help fuel your body, aid digestion and help to burn fat along the way. Winner!
So ditch the toast with butter or cereal and milk, and give these tasty, healthy Chi breakfasts a go.
Want to get fit this spring in time for that lovely summer season? Chi can help you out and keep you motivated when trying to achieve your ideal summer body and state of mind!
Here is why:
1. Chi drinks are low calorie.
Switch that fizzy drink or juice for one of our delicious drinks this spring. Worried you’ll miss that sweet taste? Why not try our new RAW coconut water – bursting with a sweet but natural flavour yet only 70 Calories per 250ml per bottle.
*Available in April at Whole foods and Planet Organic.
2. Chi drinks are hydrating.
When working out it is very important to keep your body hydrated in order for your metabolism to stay as high as possible. However, it is best to stay hydrated throughout the day – before and after exercise – rather than just drinking straight before you start working out. Here at Chi we would recommend our 1L of Chi coconut water for this all-day hydration. This way you can keep us in your fridge and reach for us whenever you feel de-hydrated.
3. Chi products can encourage you to make healthier meals!
Breakfast is key to a healthy lifestyle. Why not try our Chi coconut milk in porridge? Porridge releases energy slowly throughout the day – meaning you’re less likely to snack before lunch. By using Chi coconut milk in your porridge it will also taste much creamier – meaning you might be able to resist that temptation of a maple syrup topping!
Our coconut oil is also perfect for making you lunch or supper lighter. Coconut oil can be used as a substitute in cooking just like olive oil or butter, but it is much healthier! The coconut oil also gives vegetables a great taste when used for frying or cooking… hopefully encouraging you to make more of them!
4. Chi drinks can be healthy and indulgent at the same time – making the switch to a healthy lifestyle all the more bearable!
Our Chi chocolate coconut milk sounds pretty tempting right?! Why not try it – it has that strong chocolatey taste yet has so many health benefits that you can feel indulged and revived all at once! Chi chocolate coconut milk 330ml is only 155 calories per serving and is sweetened naturally by coconut sugar. Our chocolate coconut milk is rich in vitamins & minerals. This is great for a healthy snack – key to speeding up your metabolism for weight loss!
5. Chi drinks can keep you energetic even when cutting down on sugar.
Although our products are low in sugar (containing no added preservatives or unnatural sweeteners) they can keep you awake and active when focusing on a new healthy lifestyle. Chi would recommend its espresso coconut milk – giving you a natural kick from the protein, good fats, fibre, vitamins B & C, potassium, calcium and iron within it! If that isn’t the perfect drink to power you through an afternoon we don’t know what is!
Chi coconut water was proud to support Work Well Being on the 13th of March for their first ever event!
WHAT IS WORK – WELL – BEING?
Louise and Abby are passionate & experienced practitioners and advocates of everything wellbeing! Both having many years experience within these practices has resulted in them establishing a network of the very best Wellbeing Warriors (teachers!) in London today.
Their belief is that there is a better way to work, we are working longer and harder than ever before, with time for our own personal wellbeing being pushed to the bottom of our to-do-list. It is time for employers to provide their staff something far more meaningful, wellbeing.
Work-Well-Being are on a mission to change the way we work, with the belief that wellbeing should be a core part of the working day, not something that individuals are forced to try and cram in during their few spare hours of an evening, or an often already full-packed weekend. Not only are the benefits of this huge to the individual, wellbeing is also a real business tool. There is no trade-off between living a well-rounded life and high performance; performance is actually improved when our lives include time for reflection, restoration and renewal. An environment where people are happy in their jobs and given the respect and freedom to be themselves will enable the best work and ideas to flourish.
The services that Work-Well-Being offer make it a whole lot easier for the workplace to offer wellbeing to their employees! They program the full day using their network of the very best teachers, manage all of the internal promotion of the event, manage all class sign-ups, provision of equipment & insurance and importantly evaluate the success & impact of the event to the workplace.
During Work-Well-Being’s event there where 2 yoga classes,2 meditation sessions an inspirational talk on How to Manage Work Stress and individual Health Coaching consultations. Chi happily sent over a load of coconut water to keep everyone hydrated and energized – the perfect drink to have at hand for these activities! Here are a few photos from the event – a total success with some great feedback to both Chi and Work-Well-Being.
We hope you enjoyed the event if you went and if not really recommend attending the next one! To find out how, you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Why use coconut oil; by Sarah Hawley.
As we have found out here at Chi, there are many uses for coconut oil. Sarah Hawley is a fitness competitor and aspiring fitness model, she definitely has the body to show for it! Like many of you out there, she swears by coconut oil. Here she tells us about her coconut oil uses and why it’s so important in her training and diet routine.
My coconut oil of choice is Chi 100% Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. It’s raw, unrefined and unbleached, and the coconuts are cold-pressed, which retains both the depth of flavour, and also the high nutritional content. It was also the winner of a Great Taste Award (2014).
I mostly use coconut oil to cook with. Like all saturated fats, coconut oil is heat-stable, meaning that it’s far better for you than any other processed vegetable oil that’s manufactured specifically for cooking. Most importantly it’s natural, easy to digest, and makes food feel more satisfying while adding flavour.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding coconut oil these days. So much so, that people are calling it a “superfood”. Its benefits include everything from reducing your appetite and increasing energy expenditure (which in turn helps you lose weight), to improving cholesterol levels and brain function (due to its make-up of medium chain triglycerides or MCTs). Health benefits aside though, it actually tastes great too!
Now, there’s a common misunderstanding that all saturated fats are bad for us, when in fact, we actually need a certain amount of saturated fats in our diet. They help calcium absorption, protect the liver, and helps keep our brain function and immune systems running properly.
I especially like to add a teaspoon of coconut oil into my morning coffee. I do this because it tastes amazing, but the combination of caffeine and saturated fat also gives the body a great and lasting energy boost.
More recently, I’ve found that adding it to my rice just before it’s finished cooking gives it a lovely flavour, and a hint of the exotic!
Follow Sarah here, and find more great uses for coconut oil and recipes on our blog or pinterest. Happy coconut oil cooking!

#ThisGirlCan – inspiring women everywhere to be more active
We think their approach has been spot on, so we decided to ask what our Instagram followers thought of the campaign and find out which sports and fitness bloggers inspire them to be fit, healthy and active.
Recommended by @lisa_s_goodman who thinks #ThisGirlCan is “mega inspiring!”
“It all began when I started sharing my food diaries and workouts on Instagram. My friends would often ask me for meal ideas and tips, and I realised I loved talking about health and fitness. I found it so motivating that I decided to start my blog, Gymbags & Gladrags.”
“Sharing my journey to a healthier, fitter body helps to keep me on track and inspires my readers to achieve their goal body. Together we work to better ourselves and I love that sense of community.”
“The #ThisGirlCan campaign mirrors what I believe perfectly. I love it!”
“Two things I’ve learned: never give up and always smile!“
“I’m Polly and I’m a former PE-dodger! I was inspired to create runningforaugust when I signed up to run the London Marathon in honour of my friend August who had completed it in 2012. August was brave, hard working and outstandingly generous, and I was devastated when she had a fatal accident in 2014. I aspire to be like her every day, and I’ve found running to be the best therapy, as well as a community of support that is inspiring beyond words.”
Polly thinks that #ThisGirlCan “is an awesome campaign!”
“I’m a 21 year old student at the University of Warwick who is training to be an elite triathlete. Since I was young I have always been obsessed with sport and anything to do with it – whatever the challenge, I was there and I loved how sport brought people from all backgrounds together.”
“I started my blog last year to chat about my sporting endeavours, share my passion for healthy living, and to inspire and motivate others to think they “can do it too.”
“I think the #ThisGirlCan campaign is long overdue. Girls everywhere worry about image, body and judgement. The gym is supposed to leave you sweaty, not glamorous and we should all embrace it! Be proud of what you do, and who you are.”
Well said, girls! Join the conversation on Twitter and let everyone know that #ThisGirlCan

Coconut Oil for Dry Skin and Hair
As we move towards October, it is important to start protecting ourselves from the damaging effects of the cold, winter weather. During these colder months, dryness in the air forces our hair, skin and nails to behave very differently. Compensating for this loss of natural moisture in the air can be challenging, but here at Chi, we have an all-in-one solution for you…
Labelled as “nature’s wonder oil,” Coconut Oil is packed with nutrients that can help to nourish dry hair skin and hair. Organic, Virgin, Coconut Oil is also a natural and effective way to lessen your exposure to the toxins and chemicals found in many everyday beauty products. Many moisturisers, shampoos and conditioners contain alcohols and petroleum-based ingredients that can suffocate the skin and damage hair. Commercial beauty brands often contain a lot of water too, which makes you feel like your skin/hair are being moisturised, but as soon as the water dries, your skin dries. In contrast, coconut oil provides deep and real moisture. It helps to strengthen underlying tissues and remove excessive dead cells on the skin’s surface, as well as strengthen hair follicles and add shine for gorgeous, silky locks.
Grab yourself a jar of Chi Organic Virgin Coconut Oil here, and follow these 3 easy steps for hydrated hair, skin and nails this Winter…
1. Wash your hair using a natural and organic shampoo. We recommend Green People’s range. Rinse with lukewarm water.
2. Apply a generous amount of Coconut Oil to your hair, and comb through to the ends. (Tip: leave about 1 inch of the roots un-oiled to avoid the greasy-look!)
3. Leave for 10 – 30 minutes. Rinse once or twice and leave the hair to dry naturally.
4. Repeat once a week.
blake lively link
1. Cleanse face as per your usual routine.
2. Apply a small amount of coconut oil around the delicate eye area, and any dry patches. (Tip: coconut oil also makes a great lip balm!)
3. Allow 10 minutes to soak into the skin before applying make-up.
1. Remove any existing nail polish and soak your hands in warm water.
2. Massage coconut oil into your hands, concentrating on the cuticle and nail area.
3. Sit back, relax and allow 10 minutes to soak into the skin.
4. Apply your favourite nail polish. (We recommend Zoya – free from harsh chemicals and toxins.)
Beautiful skin also comes from within. Remember to drink plenty of water and coconut water during winter.
