PRESS all ingredients through a juicer in batches. Stir and sprinkle some desiccated coconut on your smoothie and serve immediately.

Adjust fruit and veggie amounts to suit your personal taste. More apple equals a sweeter drink. Store any extra in the fridge for up to one day.

There are a lot of benefits of using spinach in this smoothie. Spinach contains vitamin K, fiber, phosphorus, and thiamine. Most of the calories in spinach come from protein and carbohydrates.

Potassium

Spinach is one of the best sources of dietary potassium, weighing in at 839 milligrams per cup (cooked). To compare, one cup of banana has about 539 milligrams of potassium.

Iron

A lack of iron in the diet can effect how efficiently the body uses energy. Spinach is a great source of iron, along with lentils, tuna, and eggs. Make sure to combine vitamin C-rich foods with plant iron to improve absorption.

Magnesium

Spinach is also one of the best sources of dietary magnesium, which is necessary for energy metabolism, maintaining muscle and nerve function, heart rhythm, a healthy immune system, and maintaining blood pressure. Magnesium also plays a part in hundreds more biochemical reactions that occur in the body.

“My village has had a big problem with water for a very long time. Our source of water has been a pond that has been drying up some times during the dry seasons leaving us with no water. This meant that we had to walk to the nearby community to get water from a swamp. We had to walk to close to 3 kilometers to and from. I used to spend a lot of time looking for water, yet I also had to do chores at home. This greatly affected my performance at school because I didn’t have enough time to read and revise.

But thanks to Chi Coconut Water which has answered our prayers by constructing a clean water source for us through Drop 4 Drop. Am very excited that my village has clean water now. I longer spend a lot of time looking for water, this water burden was dealt with and now I have time to do other home chores and read my books. I believe my performance at school will greatly impove.”

Namuli Shamim, 9 years old from Bukemba 3.

Clean Water

“I have a baby which makes it extremely hard for me to fetch water especially when he is crying. Now, however, I am able to take better care of him because I have more time to spend with him. I can get clean drinking water in two minutes and I don’t have to worry about the water being unsafe.”

Mrs Munemma, 33 years old.

Drop4Drop Clean Water Project
for the Vadapada Community

We are delighted with the update from the charity we support, Drop4Drop, on the news that the clean drinking water project for the community in Vadapada, has now officially been completed.

Vadapada is an area in Umarpada Taluk in Surat District of Gujurat, home to 450 people. We are over the moon that with our collaboration, we were able to change the lives for many of these people in the community. In rural areas of India, water resource is a major crisis and for the large population of people living in these areas, planned water resources tends to get left out. This is a major concern and results to poor and difficult accessibility to clean water supply. With our support, we have made this dream of having clean and easy access to water, a reality to this community.

Mrs Bhagyashri Sandesh Taral, 27 years old from Vadapada:
‘“Before this, I used to wake up early in the morning to walk 1 km to collect water. So, every day I start my farm work late and so return home in the evening late too. Now I am relaxed, I can access enough water near my home and this saves me so much time.”
It is a pleasure that we can make a change to so many people’s lives and this makes the team at Chi very happy! Our goal is to continue working on these projects to help improve more peoples lives living in these rural communities.

Why Drink Chi during
A Workout?

As we all know it’s so important to drink water, particularly during a workout. But what should we drink during intense exercise? Its hard to find a drink that will keep you hydrated and give you the energy needed. In this article you will find a few suggestions of drinks that you could drink during your workout.

First we have to understand what our body needs.

When we sweat we loose a lot electrolytes. Here are the common electrolytes that we loose during working out:

– Sodium & Calcium

– Potassium

You must replace them by drinking a fluid that contains electrolytes. Water does not contain electrolytes.

Also we need carbs to refuel & give you energy and proteins helps to repair any damage.

What is the right amount to drink?

Doctors recommend to drink 8 ounces every 15 minutes during workout and to ‘drink to thirst’. But don’t drink too much because consuming a lot of fluid but not enough sodium can develop an hyponatremia condition. However this case is really rare most people don’t drink enough!

So what to drink?

For sure water is the easiest solution, it’s fine to consume it when it’s not an intense workout. But water doesn’t contain electrolytes.

Chi Raw Coconut Water suits an intense workout perfectly as it contains a high level of electrolytes and also it gives you the energy needed from its natural sugars.

After working out what to get?

Doctors recommend to have protein & carbs after workout. As we saw previously, protein repairs any muscle damage and carbs give you energy. So it’s time to make some delicious smoothies with Chi Coconut Milk!

What you need:

2 Bananas

2 large handfuls of spinach roughly chopped

2 handfuls of blueberries

7 large strawberries chopped

1 cup of Chi coconut milk

Chi coconut water to thin if needed

1/2 cup Flax seed

Now you know what you have to drink,  go workout!

“Detox” – The
Chi Way

It’s that time of year again, when most of us try to regain some normality in our lives following the festive season. This often involves one little word, and that’s ‘detox.’ Luckily for us, our bodies detox naturally every day. Our livers, kidneys and gut do a fabulous job of ridding unwanted toxins from our bodies. So when we talk about detoxing here at Chi, it is important to know what we mean…

Detoxing “the Chi way” is all about cleansing the mind, body and soul to help us ease back into our routines, and get us back in tip-top shape for the New Year.

At Chi, we don’t believe in living on juice diets, or restricting ourselves from foods that give us pleasure. Instead, we believe in balance. Balance is the key to health and happiness!

We all find our own balance, in our own way, and everyone is different. What works for some, may not work for others, but we think that starting with these steps might just help you on your path to finding your balance, and a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Detox your mind

“Positive mind, positive vibes, positive life.”

Rid yourself of negative thoughts, and adopt a positive attitude for the new year. Stop putting yourself down, challenge yourself, learn new things and above all, TRY new things.

The best way to find inner peace and channel good, positive energy is to take up yoga, meditation or tai chi. Luckily, they’re all on-trend, so classes shouldn’t be too hard to find. Why not try Yoga with a breathtaking view at the top of The Shard? Click here for more info.

Detox your body

Rid yourself of the unhealthy habits you’ve picked up over the holidays:

  • Drink plenty of water (at least 2 litres a day)
  • Replace unhealthy snacks and drinks with healthier alternatives that you enjoy
  • Take up a new sport, or join the gym. (Even if you don’t fancy using the machinery, most gyms have really great classes which can really motivate you. Try FRAME) And above all,
  • Most importantly, REST. Rest is just as important as the exercise itself.

Detox your soul

Find something that makes you happy, and schedule it in to your weekly routine. Whether it be painting, dancing or eating a pile of chocolate brownies, if it makes you happy, then you should probably do it. (Of course, if you’re going to go for the chocolate brownie option, limit yourself to once a week!)

Detox your skin

Treat your skin, the same way you would treat your gut this January. Try to buy chemical free skincare products, and perfume free make-up. Neal’s Yard have a great range.

Add a little colour to your plate

Greens are great, really great, but like we said, balance is the key to a happier and healthier lifestyle. Make your plates more colourful by adding beetroots, tomatoes, sweet potato or colourful fruits to your salads. You will find that the colour of your fruit or veg will often tell you a lot about its benefits and properties. For example, blue and purple foods are often rich in anti-oxidants and contain anti-ageing benefits.

SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS

Just because we’re all taking part in Dry January, it doesn’t mean we have to give up shots… not the green ones anyway! Just like you’d splash out 50p for an extra dollop of Guacamole on your Burrito, try adding a shot of Wheatgrass, Spirulina or Chlorella next time you’re ordering/making your green smoothie. We promise that you’ll feel the difference! Buy here.

Remember: A balanced lifestyle is for life, not just for January.

Coconut Oil for Dry
Skin and Hair

As we move towards October, it is important to start protecting ourselves from the damaging effects of the cold, winter weather. During these colder months, dryness in the air forces our hair, skin and nails to behave very differently.
Compensating for this loss of natural moisture in the air can be challenging, but here at Chi, we have an all-in-one solution for you…

COCONUT OIL

Labelled as “nature’s wonder oil,” Coconut Oil is packed with nutrients that can help to nourish dry hair skin and hair. Organic, Virgin, Coconut Oil is also a natural and effective way to lessen your exposure to the toxins and chemicals found in many everyday beauty products. Many moisturisers, shampoos and conditioners contain alcohols and petroleum-based ingredients that can suffocate the skin and damage hair. Commercial beauty brands often contain a lot of water too, which makes you feel like your skin/hair are being moisturised, but as soon as the water dries, your skin dries.  In contrast, coconut oil provides deep and real moisture. It helps to strengthen underlying tissues and remove excessive dead cells on the skin’s surface, as well as strengthen hair follicles and add shine for gorgeous, silky locks.

Grab yourself a jar of Chi Organic Virgin Coconut Oil here, and follow these 3 easy steps for hydrated hair, skin and nails this Winter…

1. Wash your hair using a natural and organic shampoo. We recommend Green People’s range. Rinse with lukewarm water.

2. Apply a generous amount of Coconut Oil to your hair, and comb through to the ends. (Tip: leave about 1 inch of the roots un-oiled to avoid the greasy-look!)

3. Leave for 10 – 30 minutes. Rinse once or twice and leave the hair to dry naturally.

4. Repeat once a week.

For Skin…

1. Cleanse face as per your usual routine.

2. Apply a small amount of coconut oil around the delicate eye area, and any dry patches. (Tip: coconut oil also makes a great lip balm!)

3. Allow 10 minutes to soak into the skin before applying make-up.

Screen Shot 2014-09-26 at 15.57.01For Nails…

1. Remove any existing nail polish and soak your hands in warm water.

2. Massage coconut oil into your hands, concentrating on the cuticle and nail area.

3. Sit back, relax and allow 10 minutes to soak into the skin.

4. Apply your favourite nail polish. (We recommend Zoya – free from harsh chemicals and toxins.)

Beautiful skin also comes from within. Remember to drink plenty of water and coconut water during winter.
